Part-time jobs off campus can be a great way to earn extra income, gain real-world experience, and build professional skills. Whether you're working in retail, food service, tutoring, or an office setting, these roles can help strengthen your resume, expand your network, and support your financial independence—all while offering a change of pace from campus life.
TritonTrack: Under 'Position Type' check the box for 'Part Time' to find local opportunities.
Online Job Boards: Websites like Indeed, SnagaJob, Hiring Cafe, and LinkedIn list part-time roles in your area.
Local Businesses: Many restaurants, cafes, retail stores, and tutoring centers near campus hire students—check their websites or drop by to ask if they’re hiring.
City, County, and State Job Portals or Chamber of Commerce Sites: These sometimes feature listings from small businesses that may not advertise on national boards.
Word of Mouth: Ask peers, professors, or mentors if they know of openings—many jobs are filled through personal connections.
Finding the right part-time job is only part of the equation—getting there matters too. Here are some transportation tips and resources to help you commute safely and affordably:
Your Own Vehicle: While public transportation in St. Petersburg can be helpful, having access to a car gives you the most flexibility and convenience when it comes to job scheduling and commuting.
Public Transportation (PSTA): Eckerd students ride free on PSTA buses with a valid student ID. This includes routes to many neighborhoods and business districts. Use the PSTA Trip Planner to map your commute.
Eckerd's White Bike Program: White Bikes can be a great option for short commutes to nearby jobs. These free 4-hour rentals are available through the On Bike Share app using your Eckerd email and can be picked up outside the James Center. If your workplace is within biking distance and has safe routes, this can be a convenient way to get to and from work—just be sure to plan ahead, wear a helmet, and return the bike within the time limit.
